One hundred square metres on the lower ground floor of a chalet on Avenue Centrale, clad entirely in old wood, with a spa bathroom whose shower doubles as a hammam and a large terrace open to the valley and the Alps. Three double bedrooms, six guests, shops and the gondola on foot.
It's the apartment you choose for the evenings: indirect light on old wood, the corner sofa under the arched windows, the hammam after a day on the slopes or the trails.

The apartment
The apartment takes up the whole lower ground floor of a three-apartment chalet in the centre of Villars-sur-Ollon. One hundred square metres in one piece, with a private entrance, the ski room and the terrace to yourselves: you don't pass anyone in a corridor, you walk into your own place.
Old wood clads the walls and ceilings, stone appears in the living room and the bathrooms, and large arched windows open the living room onto the terrace and the mountains. The deep corner sofa faces a decorative fireplace that is not for use: the heating is independent and the apartment is warm in every season. The floor is a smooth, dark surface, pleasant barefoot, that does not like ski boots: they stay in the ski room.
The lighting was designed for evenings: a circular pendant over the table, light strips in the wooden cornices, wall lights in the bedrooms. It is warm and low rather than bright; the reading lamps are there for reading.
Three bedrooms, three double beds
The three bedrooms are clad in wood, each with a double bed, storage, hangers and blackout blinds for lie-ins. One has a desk corner: room to work for a morning without taking over the dining table, and the wifi handles video calls. Extra pillows and blankets are in the wardrobes.
Sheets, duvet covers and towels are provided and the beds are made when you arrive. A washing machine is available on request, useful for a week or longer, and a hairdryer is waiting in the bathroom.
The spa bathroom and the hammam
This is the room that sets it apart from our other apartments in Villars. A freestanding bath in the middle, a basin carved from stone, and a large rain shower that turns into a hammam, with chromotherapy lighting. After a day on the Bretaye slopes or a hike, half an hour in there comes naturally.
The toilet is separate, with its own stone basin, which avoids queues with six people. One bathroom for three bedrooms, then: that is the trade-off of this apartment, and the hammam makes up for it. If you need two or three bathrooms, our garden-level apartment with sauna, a few doors down, has three.
Kitchen, meals and evenings
The kitchen opens onto the living room, in old wood and black granite: Miele oven, hob, extractor, microwave, fridge with freezer, dishwasher, Nespresso machine, kettle, toaster and a full set of crockery, baking trays and wine glasses included. You can really cook here, not just pasta; the Coop on Avenue Centrale is a few minutes away for shopping.
The dining table sits under the circular pendant light, next to the windows, with six chairs. The living room has a television, a sound system for music and lamps for reading; the main lighting is indirect, in keeping with the place.
The terrace
Large, paved and furnished, the terrace extends the living room through the windows. It faces the valley and the Alps opposite, with trees below: breakfast in the sun from spring onwards and drinks until late in summer. Rough-wood furniture, a table for six to eat outside, and the quiet of a chalet set back from the street.
The chalet and its three apartments
The chalet has three apartments and we manage two of them: this one, on the lower ground floor, and our old-wood chalet apartment, also with three bedrooms, with its stone walls and balcony facing the Alps. The two are booked separately, each with its own entrance, or together for a group of twelve: two families, two generations, a group of friends who want to dine together and sleep apart.
The chalet is lived in, which means quiet between 10 pm and 7 am and no parties. It is also why it is so well kept.
The neighbourhood: Avenue Centrale
Avenue Centrale is Villars' main street: the bakery, the supermarket, the restaurants, the sports and ski-hire shops are a few minutes' walk away, and so are the lifts. You do not need the car during your stay; if you come with one, a private outdoor parking space is reserved for you in front of the chalet.
Without a car, the train takes you to Bex, then the BVB climbs to Villars; from the station, Avenue Centrale is a short walk. Guests who come without a vehicle regularly tell us the regional buses and trains are enough to get around, right up to day trips into the Valais.
Who it suits
A family of six, two couples with children or six friends: three real double bedrooms, a single bathroom but a separate toilet, and a living room where everyone fits. Skiers appreciate the ski room and the lifts on foot; remote workers, the desk corner and the connection; those who come for peace, the terrace and the hammam.
The apartment welcomes children and babies; let us know when booking if you need a travel cot or a high chair and we will provide them subject to availability. The minimum stay is four nights, all year round: this is an apartment for a holiday, not a stopover.
Arrival and departure, in practice
You arrive independently from 5 pm: the code for the secure key box, the wifi code and useful addresses reach you before your stay in the arrival guide. For an earlier arrival or a later departure, write to us from your booking and we confirm according to the cleaning schedule. Our Villars team answers every day from 9 am to 9 pm.
Departure is by 9 am at the latest. We ask four things of you: take the rubbish to the containers (the spot is shown in the guide), wash the dishes you used, strip duvet covers and pillowcases, and put the key back in the box. End-of-stay cleaning is included and done by our team.
Good to know before booking
Non-smoking, no pets and no parties; quiet requested between 10 pm and 7 am. The fireplace is decorative and must not be lit. Ski boots stay in the ski room, the living-room floor is sensitive to them. Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, a fire extinguisher and a first-aid kit are in place.

Questions about this property
Is the hammam in the bathroom or in a separate room?
In the bathroom: the shower doubles as a hammam, with a rain effect and chromotherapy lighting. There is no separate cabin. The toilet, however, is separate.
Can I book fewer than four nights?
No, four nights is the minimum for this apartment all year round. The minimum is the same for our other apartments in Villars, and five nights for the family chalet.
Is there parking?
Yes, a private outdoor parking space in front of the chalet, included. With the centre and the lifts on foot, the car stays parked during your stay.
Does the living-room fireplace work?
No, it is decorative and must not be lit, for safety reasons. The apartment has independent heating.
Where do skis and boots go?
In the private ski room on the ground floor. Ski boots do not come into the apartment, the living-room floor is sensitive to them.
Can we rent both apartments in the chalet together?
Yes. Our old-wood chalet apartment, also with three bedrooms, is in the same chalet. Booked together, the two sleep twelve, each with its own entrance.
Is there a cot and a high chair?
On request when booking, subject to availability: tell us the children's ages and we prepare what is needed.
