Veysonnaz is one of the gateways to the 4 Vallées, which Veysonnaz Tourisme describes as Switzerland's largest ski area, with 410 km of slopes. From the heart of the resort, next to the Hôtel Magrappé, the Veysonnaz gondola climbs in 8 minutes to 2,121 m, on the Thyon plateau, where you reach the Thyon slopes and the link to Siviez, in the municipality of Nendaz. Via Mont-Fort, you can ski all the way between Veysonnaz, Thyon, Nendaz and Verbier.
For skiing without going far, the Printse sector links Nendaz, Veysonnaz and Thyon with 220 km of slopes according to the resort, ideal for beginners who want to progress on varied runs; the 4 Vallées pass adds Mont-Fort and Verbier.
The Piste de l'Ours made the resort's name: a red run of 2.3 km with a 662 m vertical drop, linking Thyon 2000 to the Mayens de l'Ours. It has hosted some thirty World Cup races and still welcomes alpine skiing, ski cross, snowboard cross and para-alpine competitions. From the Mayens de l'Ours, the Ours gondola, built in 2017, takes you back up to the top of the run, at 2,121 m, in 8 minutes.
The municipality distinguishes the village, at 1,230 m, from the resort, at 1,300 m; Magrappé, at 1,470 m, is the highest point in the municipality. The old village keeps its traditional chalets, the resort is built around the gondola, and in winter a shuttle bus links different points of the village to the gondola.
Around the village, the mayens are old alpine chalets scattered across the slope, which the Veysonnaz gondola flies over for most of the ride. In winter, reaching them takes more preparation: GPS often stops short of the door, there is no street lighting, mobile coverage can be patchy and car access may become impassable after a snowfall.
That is why our access instructions are sent before you leave, never on arrival: a GPS point for the actual entrance, photos of the entrance and the parking space and, for an isolated property, a place to park and finish on foot if the last stretch is impassable. The road from Sion stays open all year, but part of it is in the shade late in the day: plan winter tyres, and possibly snow chains, depending on conditions.
Veysonnaz is 13 km from the motorway, about 15 minutes' drive from Sion: on the A9, take the Sion-Ouest / Nendaz exit and follow signs for Nendaz until Veysonnaz is signposted. Geneva airport is 165 km away, and Sion, 15 km away, has its own airport.
Without a car, take the train to Sion, then the PostBus on the Sion-Veysonnaz line, which runs daily from the station via Beuson or via the Mayens de l'Ours, in 30 to 40 minutes depending on the route. Once there, the village is compact and easy to explore on foot, except for properties in the upper village or outside the centre.
In summer, being close to Sion is a real plus: in a quarter of an hour you are down in the cantonal capital, with its Valère and Tourbillon castles.
Tourist tax
In the municipality of Veysonnaz, the tourist tax for a holiday home is CHF 4.– per adult per night; children aged 6 to 16 pay half, CHF 2.–, and children under 6 are exempt.
Note that the Veysonnaz destination also extends over the municipalities of Nendaz and Sion, and it is the municipality where the property is located that sets the applicable rules. As for our other properties, the amount due will be shown before you book.
In the meantime
If you want to book now in the same ski area, our two apartments in Nendaz can be booked direct: one ski-in ski-out for six, with the residence's jacuzzi, sauna and counter-current pool, the other for four, with a panoramic balcony and covered parking.
Nendaz and Veysonnaz are both part of the Printse sector and linked by the slopes; in summer, a shuttle serving the bisses, the old irrigation channels, also connects the two resorts.
The resort
Perched above the Rhône valley, a quarter of an hour from Sion, Veysonnaz is a small, friendly village where people come to ski the 4 Vallées without the bustle of the big resorts. Veysonnaz Tourisme reports an average of 300 days of sunshine a year and a sweeping view down over the Rhône valley.
In summer, the gondola leads to walks around Mont-Rouge and along the Bisse de Chervé; Veysonnaz Tourisme lists 21 walks, 14 mountain bike and e-bike routes and eight bisses, 98 km of walking along the old irrigation channels.
Their opening is planned for the 2026-2027 winter season, with no precise date yet. Write to us from the contact page to be notified as soon as they can be booked.
Three properties: a chalet, a studio and a property sleeping six. Their photos, amenities and rates are not published yet; we only state here what is already certain.
As in our other properties, we plan to send access instructions before your stay, with check-in from 5 pm, check-out at 9 am, bed linen and towels provided and end-of-stay cleaning by our team; the exact terms will appear on each property's page when it opens.
Not necessarily: the train takes you to Sion, then PostBus services climb to Veysonnaz from the station. Most guests still come by car, on a road open all year; in winter, plan suitable tyres.
Yes. The Veysonnaz gondola climbs to the Thyon plateau, where the link to Siviez starts; with the 4 Vallées pass, you then reach Mont-Fort and Verbier.
