Your guide to renting in Zermatt

Who is this apartment in Zermatt for?

For couples, families and skiers looking for space and quiet rather than the shopping street: two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a large volume under the roof and the light of the mezzanine. For six, everyone has their place; for two or four, you enjoy the space.

Access via 80 outdoor steps requires being comfortable with stairs, with luggage and skis. Our arrival instructions explain the journey from the station, by electric taxi or on foot.

Where to stay in Zermatt? Centre, Winkelmatten, old village

The centre and the Bahnhofstrasse gather shops and restaurants, a few minutes from the station and from the Gornergrat and Sunnegga departures. Winkelmatten, a residential hamlet above the village, is popular with families and gives access to the slopes via Furi. Oberdorf, the old village, keeps its historic mazots.

Bodmenstrasse, where our apartment stands, is five minutes on foot from the centre, uphill: hence the village views and the quiet, and the steps.

Zermatt is closed to cars: you leave yours at the Täsch car park and take the rail shuttle (12 minutes), or arrive directly by train from Visp. In the village, electric taxis and electric buses handle transfers.

Zermatt through the year

Winter. 360 km of slopes over three sectors, up to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and a season running from November to May. The end-of-year holidays and February are the most requested weeks.

Summer. Summer skiing on the glacier, hiking towards Sunnegga, the Gornergrat and the lakes, the Matterhorn at every turn of the trail: Zermatt lives all year round, with an international clientele.

Tourist tax. Zermatt Tourismus collects 4 francs per adult per night according to the municipal regulation; the amount is shown before you book.

The resort

Zermatt, the car-free village at the foot of the Matterhorn

Between 1,620 and 3,883 m, Zermatt is the most international resort in Switzerland: a car-free village, lifts to the Gornergrat, Sunnegga and the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise, and the Matterhorn as a backdrop.

The winter season lasts from November to May, summer skiing takes over on the glacier, and hiking fills the months in between.
